My Favorite Halloween Spider Cupcake Recipe.

These adorable creepy crawlers are too cute. A Halloween Cupcake that is spooky, yet not too scary for the little ones. Also a chocolate lovers delight. Enjoy.

Helpful Hint: If you are pressed for time, a box mix and canned frosting will work the same, and the kids will still feel the love. You can make festive, colorful Cupcakes

Baking Ingredients for Devils Food Spider Cupcake

  • 2 1/4 cups all purpose flour
  • 1 2/3 cups sugar
  • 2/3 cup baking cocoa
  • 1/2 teaspoon baking soda
  • 1 teaspoon salt
  • 1/4 teaspoon baking powder
  • 3/4 cup shortening
  • 2 large eggs
  • 1 1/2 cups water
  • 1 teaspoon vanilla

Directions:
  1. Preheat oven to 350 degrees.
  2. Line cupcake pans with foil or paper liners.
  3. Combine all ingredients in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Mix at high speed for 3 minutes, until batter is well blended
  5. Fill batter into cupcake liners 2/3 full.
  6. Bake for 20 to 25 minutes or until toothpick inserted in center comes out clean.
  7. cool completely.

Chocolate Butter-cream Icing Recipe
  • 2 squares of semi-sweet chocolate
  • 1 square of unsweetened chocolate
  • 1/3 cup sugar
  • 1/4 cup water
  • 1 cup powdered sugar
  • 1 cup butter or margarine

Directions:
  1. Break up both chocolates and melt in a non-stick pan.
  2. Stir until melted and blended nicely. Remove from heat.
  3. In another non-stick pan, combine sugar and water, bring to a boil and boil for one minute.
  4. Remove from heat. Place powdered sugar in medium bowl,or food processor.
  5. Gradually blend in sugar-water mixture; beat at high speed 5 minutes or until smooth.
  6. Gradually add butter, stirring in small piece at a time, and blend in well.
  7. Add melted chocolate; blend well, and continue beating until smooth and fluffy.
  8. Frost on cooled cupcakes.

Decorating Ingredients

  • Black or colored sugar, chocoloate sprinkles or cookie crumbs depending on decorationg choice
  • 24 large marshmallows
  • 1 large package of M&Ms or Mini sunflower seeds or little red hot candies
  • 48 red or black licorice laces

  1. Bake the this spider cupcake recipe as above. Let cool.
  2. Spread the tops of cupcakes with chocolate butter-cream frosting, and dip in sprinkles, sugar or cookie crumbs to completely coat the top.
  3. Places candy pieces accordingly to make the spider.
